First Grade Music Notes

Greetings Parents and Guardians,
Your son or daughter participates in music class three days a week this year. I see the students twice a week, and Mrs. Hansmann sees them once each week.
The first quarter began with a review of kindergarten concepts: fast and slow, loud and soft, singing in tune, and keeping a steady beat.
New Concepts for the first grade students have been:
During the second quarter students will be introduced to rhythm syllables (ta and ti-ti) and so and mi patterns. They will continue to read, play, and write songs and games that reinforce these concepts. We will also be focusing on learning songs for our upcoming First Grade Program which will be February 1, 2018 at 6:30 pm.

- identifying beat vs. rhythm
- identifying the number of sounds per beat
- tracking the rhythm icons with their fingers while singing or speaking
- Creating their own rhythms based on the words they use
